Ritz-Carlton and Marriott Autograph Collection Deploy Plasma Air Ionization Technology
Bipolar ionization helps neutralize airborne pathogens and viruses in luxury hospitality properties.

— Plasma Air, the leading innovator in indoor air quality (IAQ) solutions, announced today that several top luxury hotel brands have selected its ionization systems. Marriott’s Autograph Collection Hotels and The Ritz-Carlton are installing bipolar ionization technology in their HVAC systems to help neutralize airborne pathogens and viruses, including SARS-CoV-2.
Hotel Paso del Norte (Autograph Collection)
El Paso’s historic Hotel Paso del Norte, Autograph Collection, located in the city’s downtown district, re-opened following a multi-million dollar renovation with added health and safety features. The hotel, which originally opened in 1912, utilizes Plasma Air’s bipolar ionization technology throughout its HVAC systems.
Plasma Air technology is scientifically proven to reduce live SARS-CoV-2 by 99.99%.
“We are among the first Marriott Autograph Hotels in the world to install a system that cleans the air to this level,” said Carlos Sarmiento, General Manager of Hotel Paso del Norte. “When we undertook this project, we were prepared to restore the 108-year-old property’s architectural elements, create stunning event spaces, and curate a distinct culinary destination—but COVID-19 created the necessity to enhance air quality in all areas of the hotel. In 2020, there is no amenity greater than safety.”
The Plasma Air ionization system was integrated into the property's HVAC infrastructure—delivering continuous air purification across all 350 guest rooms and public spaces. In addition to inactivating viruses, the system reduces airborne bacteria, mold spores, odors, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) without harmful chemicals or byproducts.
The Ritz-Carlton at Paradise Valley
Scottsdale, Arizona’s Ritz-Carlton at Paradise Valley features cutting-edge Plasma Air ionization systems across its 122-acre development. The luxury development includes retail spaces, hospitality venues, dining, a 215-room resort, and 81 residential villas.
The residential villas mark the first property within The Ritz-Carlton brand assets to feature continuous ionized air purification. Read the Forbes feature highlighting ionized air as the new luxury amenity.
“With the health issues we’re facing in the world today, including Plasma Air ionization was a necessary addition to ensure the highest level of clean, safe airflow throughout the property,” said Jerry Ayoub, President of Five Star Development.
Five Star Development acquired over 1,000 Plasma Air systems installed across residential villas, resort areas, retail locations, dining spaces, and wellness facilities to minimize the risk of airborne infectious disease outbreaks.
