Meadow View Nursing Center, a 150-bed, three-story continuing care retirement community, implemented WellAir's portable air disinfection devices, the Protect 200 and the Protect 900, in selected rooms and areas. This study compares the total number of respiratory nosocomial infec-tions before and after implementation of the units, which use WellAir's patented NanoStrike™ technology.
A 24-month review was conducted to evaluate the results.
A Nurse Risk Manager Consultant with RB Health Partners, Inc. visited the facility for two days to abstract information and review the data. The periods selected for aggregate pre- and post-re-view were a 9-month time period prior to the implementation and the same 9-month period the following year, after implementation. Comparison of like periods reduces the risk of skewed data related to seasonal variances.
In the period after implementation of the Protect 200 and Protect 900 units in selected areas, the total number of nosocomial respira-tory infections at Meadow View Nursing Center decreased from 93 to 21, a 77.42% reduction.
The total number of nosocomial respiratory infections on the first floor decreased from 39 to 14, a 64.10%.
The total number of nosocomial respiratory infections on the second floor decreased from 31 to 6, an 80.65% reduction.
The total number of nosocomial respiratory infections on the third floor decreased from 23 to 1, a 95.65% reduction.
